The Tigers have announced that they have recalled left handed reliever Phil Coke and infielder Hernan Perez, and sent Jeremy Bonderman to Toledo and Luke Putkonen to Lakeland.
The fact that the Tigers made this move today makes Perez and Coke automatically eligible to be included on a post season roster. Otherwise, they could only have been included on a playoff roster if they replaced an injured player.
Bonderman and Putkonen will be recalled within a few days. Putkonen going to Lakeland means he can be recalled a day earlier, since the Flying Tigers' season ends on Sunday, while the Mud Hens' finish their season on Monday.
Coke has a dismal record in the Tiger bullpen this season. In 43 appearances spanning 36 innings, he carried a 5.00 ERA and a WHIP of 1.50. In Toledo, he made four appearances since being sent down, giving up four hits, no runs, no runs and striking out eight. He joins Drew Smyly in the bullpen as the only left handed pitchers on the Tiger pitching staff.
Perez hit .299 with a .356 OBP and a .699 OPS while in triple-A this season. He is more known for his glove, being able to play second base and shortstop.
