"Beer of the Series" Series #37 - Cleveland Indians, August 5-8, Progressive Field

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

Well, that sure was a fun week. Too bad it all didn't make much of a difference.

Going into the All-Star break, the Tigers were 1.5 games ahead of the Cleveland Indians and 8 games ahead of the Kansas City Royals. The pundits seemed to believe that the Tigers would run away with the division in the second half, but things were too close for comfort coming out of the break.

Fast forward to today, and a 12-3 record since the break seems like it would open things up a bit. Unfortunately, when the teams you're trying to get away from are just as hot as you are, it seems to make things slightly more difficult. The Indians are 11-5 since the break, only allowing the Tigers to stretch their division lead to 3 games, while the Royals have actually gained a half game since the break by going 13-3 themselves. Noted baseball writer and passionate Royals fan Rany Jazayerli quipped on Twitter earlier today:

With four massive games in Cleveland for our boys, those numbers may not change a whole lot by Thursday. Trust me, you're going to need something to celebrate with or drown your sorrows in by then. As someone who is going to the game Thursday night (which may or may not be dollar dog night), I know I will need something.

Hoppin' Frog Brewery has just the thing for you this week. When you need to have your ass kicked by a beer, there's really only one answer: B.O.R.I.S. The Crusher Oatmeal Imperial Stout.

Like most stouts, B.O.R.I.S. will feature the wonderful combination of roasted chestnuts, smoky malt, a campfire, dark chocolate aromas, and just the right hint of licorice counterbalanced by heavy hop notes giving a fantastic balance of the bite of hops and the cascade of malts. Unlike most stouts, B.O.R.I.S. also packs the glorious bunch of vanilla-laced alcohol and tremendous bouquet of bourbon and pine and even a little bit of grapefruit. This beer is definitely one of the more fantastic stouts I've ever had, and with a 9.4% ABV figure and 60 IBUs, it will definitely leave a mark. Hopefully it's a more pleasant mark indicating the Tigers maintaining their division lead.

Hoppin' Frog Brewery is located in Akron, OH.
