The Detroit Tigers have acquired starting Pitcher Shane Greene in a three way trade with the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Tigers have sent pitcher Robbie Ray and infield prospect Domingo Leyba to Arizona, while the Diamondbacks have sent shortstop Didi Gregorious to New York.

Shane Greene is a 26 year old starting pitcher who made his major league debut with the Yankees in 2014. The six foot four right hander made 15 starts for New York, posting an ERA of 3.78 with a WHIP of 1.40 in 78-2/3 innings. He allowed 29 walks, eight home runs, and struck out 81 batters. Sabermetrically speaking, he posted a line of 3.73 FIP, 3.40 xFIP, 3.41 SIERA.

Greene made two starts against the Tigers last season. He shutout Detroit for eight innings as the Yankees won, 1- 0 at New York.  In his second start at Detroit, he went seven innings, allowing two runs in an 8- 4 Yankees victory. There was enough there to impress the Detroit ball club.

Greene is not eligible for arbitration until 2018. He will be under club control for five more years before he is eligible for free agency.

Robbie Ray is a left handed starting pitcher who was acquired by Detroit in the trade that sent Doug Fister to Washington. He was among a group of pitchers who would compete for the fifth spot in the Tigers' rotation next spring.

Gregorious is a highly regarded shortstop who will attempt to fill the shoes of Derek Jeter for the Yankees.
