Introducing Catherine Slonksnis

Bless You Boys' newest writer

Tim Fuller-USA TODAY Sports

You've seen a few of her stories already, but Catherine Slonksnis hasn't had a proper introduction as Bless You Boys' newest writer yet, so here you go!

From Catherine:

Hello everyone! First, I am a diehard lifelong fan of baseball & I have my father to thank for that. If he hadn't taken my siblings and I to the little baseball field down the road as a kid to play and run the bases, I don't know where I would be. I grew up with a great appreciation for my country so when I graduated high school I joined the Air Force then re-upped with the Army as a reservist last year. You could say I have three jobs; that, baseball, and my real job which constantly drags me back into reality.

I'll always consider Todd Helton to be one of the most amazing under-recognized/appreciated players to have played the game recent years. If you don't think so, that's OK. He and the Colorado Rockies were part of why I fell in love with baseball, and for me that's what matters. Years ago I went to a Detroit Tigers game; that was all it took, I fell in love. I fell hard and I will be a hardcore Tiger for life, no matter what. Seems silly but sometimes that's how it goes.

Last year I was gone for the Army for the last month of the regular season, the postseason and World Series so I missed ALL the games. All I thought about was baseball the entire time. As a result, when I got home, I started blogging on MLB Blogs and it quickly took on a life of its own. I am pursuing a Bachelor of Communications with a double minor in Journalism and Digital Photography. I currently have an Associates in Film Photography.

I am humbled and thankful to Bless You Boys for bringing me on and I'm thrilled to have this opportunity!!

Catherine should be expected to keep writing features and news stories based on her interviews with members of the team this year, so that's an exciting angle BYB hasn't really had before. We really look forward to seeing what she can do.

Oh, and you can follow her on Twitter at @catslonksnis . So go and do that, too.
