Just 30 minutes before today's scheduled start against the Washington Nationals, the Detroit Tigers announced Anibal Sanchez would be scratched from the lineup.
The team admitted their right-handed number three starter is dealing with posterior shoulder inflammation, and was pulled from his starting assignment as a precaution. The Tigers did add the injury is not serious and Sanchez is expected to be available for his next scheduled start.
As for left fielder Rajai Davis, he was pulled from the lineup about an hour after it was posted. Manager Brad Ausmus made the call after Davis reported tightness in his hamstring. Just as with Sanchez, it was called a precautionary move. Davis said he would have played through the hamstring issue if it were the regular season.
The scratches all became moot when today's game was cancelled just before 2 P.M. due to rain in the Lakeland area. Considering the Tigers are battling hammer and tong with injuries this spring (and losing), a rainout could not have come at a better time for the ailing team.
