Tigers assign Eugenio Suarez, seven others in third round of roster cuts

The Detroit Tigers made another round of cuts to the spring training roster with only eight days to go until game one of the regular season.

Bright and early Sunday morning the Detroit Tigers announced the assignment of eight players to either minor league camp or Triple-A Toledo with eight days remaining until Opening Day.

Right handed pitcher Jose Ortega, left hander Kyle Lobstein and shortstop Eugenio Suarez have been assigned to Triple A Toledo. Catchers Craig Albernaz, Luis Exposito and John Murrian, and outfielders Ezequiel Carrera and Trevor Crowe have all been assigned to minor league camp.

With the most recent round of cuts, the Tigers have 32 players left on the spring training roster. Among those remaining are Tyler CollinsDanny Worth and Hernan Perez who are trying to pick up the left field and shortstop positions accordingly.

The shortstop position will be platooned with Andrew Romine who was acquired from the Angels in a trade on Friday and Worth and Perez are now competing for that platoon slot. Romine will make his first start today against the Miami Marlins, only two days after being traded.
