Well then, let's just go ahead and stoke the fires of the old Hot Stove again, shall we? The latest from Ken Rosenthal:
#STLCards exploring pitching market - and they're not aiming low. Story with @jonmorosi:... http://t.co/6AKLn8pgGa
— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) January 8, 2015
According to the story (linked in the tweet), the Cardinals are interested in bolstering their starting rotation, and they're especially interested in left-handed starters: "The Cardinals’ preference, according to sources, is to add another left-hander."
David Price and Cole Hamels are two potential targets, but so is Max Scherzer.
Rosenthal and Morosi are quick to note that "No deal appears close on any front," but still, the rumors are out there.
What's in it for the Tigers if they agree to trade David Price? Writes Rosenthal, "it could give the Tigers the flexibility to re-sign Scherzer, who rejected a six-year, $144 million offer from the team last spring."
So let the speculation and hot-stove-hot-takes begin: should the Tigers trade Price with the intention of locking up Max Scherzer? Who could they realistically get from the Cardinals that would make the trade a good one?
