The American League Division Series take a break today, but the NL is still in action.
Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals, Game 2
Start time: 5:30 p.m. ET
Media: TBS
Starting pitchers: RHP Kyle Hendricks (8-7, 3.95 ERA) vs. LHP Jaime Garcia (10-6, 2.43 ERA)
Key matchup: Cubs hitters vs. left-handed pitching
Left-handed pitchers have vexed the Cubs all season long, a weakness masked by dominant pitching staff of their own. The Cubs hit just .235/.315/.355 with a 27 percent strikeout rate against lefty starters, and they are going against one of the more underrated southpaws in baseball in Garcia. The 29-year-old Mexican did not face the Cubs in 20 regular season starts, but allowed just four runs in his final three outings.
New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers, Game 2
Start time: 9:00 p.m.
Media: TBS
Starting pitchers: RHP Noah Syndergaard (9-7, 3.24 ERA) vs. RHP Zack Greinke (19-3, 1.66 ERA)
Key matchup: Noah Syndergaard vs. home/road splits
If it were not for his ongoing innings limit saga, the Mets would likely be starting Matt Harvey at Dodger Stadium tonight. The reason? Syndergaard, who has enjoyed a stellar rookie year, was 2-5 with a 4.23 ERA in 12 road starts this year. His 3.81 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the road looks impressive, but is nowhere near the 8.60 mark he put up at Citi Field. Meanwhile, Zack Greinke hasn't given up more than two runs in a home start since April.
