It's that time of year again! No, not the time where you make your Black Friday shopping plans. Each year, SB Nation's MLB crew forces asks us to participate in their league-wide votes for various awards from the baseball season prior. You may (not) remember last year's awards, which had nothing to do with anything. This year, we're voting on the same things that the BBWAA does, with a couple other fun ideas along the way.
Two years ago, this post would have been some sort of sick joke. For years, Detroit Tigers paid as much attention to defense as your Uncle Larry pays to calories, and it resulted in some embarrassing moments. Remember when Delmon Young tried to bowl a throw in from the outfield? Or the whole Miguel Cabrera plays third base experiment? Thank goodness for that pitching staff.
This year, things were different. Jose Iglesias kept his popsicle stick legs healthy enough to see some time on the field. Ian Kinsler is here. Yoenis Cespedes was oh so awesome, and J.D. Martinez even joined the party once or twice.
Somehow, we need to narrow this down to one play, and we need to do it yesterday (seriously, we're behind). However, things are too easy to miss. If I put up a poll, we will get 5,000 tweets, comments, and an angry Facebook mob asking us why we forgot about Anthony Gose or James McCann or any one of a thousand awesome plays this team made -- it seems like a lot for a team that finished in last place, no?
Here's how we're going to do it. Post your nominations (along with a link to a video, hopefully) in the comments. We will do our best to update this post throughout the day with the nominees. The winner will be determined by number of recs on the nominating comment. If you want to vote for more than one, that's fine. Any ties will be determined by Fielder's Choice's awesome dog who howls at music.
But first, an early nominee.
Leave your suggestions in the comments!
