The Tigers finally released their spring training schedule for 2016

New, comments

The Tigers and Phillies get to play each other quite a bit this spring.

(Update: the Tigers have officially released the club's spring training schedule. The calendar below has been updated to reflect the changes.)

The Detroit Tigers have been busy. They acquired a closer, an outfielder, and a starting pitcher, all before the winter meetings. Then they made several more moves when those meetings got underway. But even as Nov. 30 came and went, the Tigers hadn't released their spring training schedule for 2016, while most other teams have already done that and moved on.

We here at Bless You Boys decided to do the leg work and decipher what we could from other teams' schedules, what to look forward to. Enough had been released that it painted a rough picture of what the Tigers would be up to in sunny Florida, while we freeze our collective bums off in the cold. Surprise! Barring a day here or there missing from the schedule, almost the entire schedule had already been listed.

Now, the times weren't there, and even now that the team has released the schedule we still don't know what games are being broadcasted on TV or the radio. That will come a little later. However, you can at least look forward to some semblance of sanity after a particularly long offseason. It's a small glimmer of hope that at some point, we'll see baseball again.

At least, until the season really starts, which isn't until April 5, with the home opener not taking place until April 8 against the Yankees.

From the Grapefruit League's schedule, there are two split squad days and four off-days during spring training. The Tigers' first game is at home in Lakeland against the Pirates, with their last game taking place on April 2 vs. the Braves. They'll play the Phillies three times and face off against the Yankees and Pirates four times each.

They also play a home-away two-gamer against the Cardinals on March 17 and 18, respectively. The club will have two stints of three straight road games. They play the Blue Jays twice, on March 22 and 24. The Tigers will play their exhibition home game on Feb. 29 against Fla. Southern, as they do every year.
