A baseball Valentine

The best thing about Valentine's day is baseball.

A baseball Valentine

How do I love thee, Valentine?
Let me count the ways
All winter long, I wait for you
Passing away the days

You mean so much to lovers
You mean so many things
For some, it’s chocolate candies
For others, diamond rings

Now, you can call me crazy
I’m just a different sort
But my eyes get kind of hazy
When pitchers and catchers report

All winter long, I pass the days
I read of free agents and trades
Longing for my Valentine
When I can watch a double play

Soon, the snow will be melted
Yielding to the spring
The pop of the gloves, the crack of the bat
The sounds that baseball brings

Hope, it springs eternal
At the start of a new season
My favorite time of year is nigh
Baseball is the reason

Santa Claus has come and gone
The groundhog has been seen
But now, it’s time, my Valentine
To watch my favorite team

The Super Bowl is fun, and all
But Football must move over
Give the chocolates to your mom
And give me a ring in October

The players may have changed
But the team remains the same
From year to year, I stand and cheer
When they play my favorite game

Please don't take it personal
Because I love another
Playing second fiddle isn't so bad
If baseball is the other

Oh Valentine, you’re in my heart
For you bring my favorite sport
I’ve waited for you, and for the day
When pitchers and catchers report!
