Gold Glove winners 2016: Tigers’ Ian Kinsler named top 2nd baseman

Kinsler became the first Tigers 2B since Polanco to win the award.

For the first time in his life, Ian Kinsler was named a Gold Glove award winner. He became the first Tigers second baseman to earn the award since Placido Polanco did it in 2009. Four Tigers were nominated for the award, including pitcher Justin Verlander, catcher James McCann, and shortstop Jose Iglesias.

Kinsler was tied with Boston’s Dustin Pedroia with 12 Defensive Runs Saved (DRS) to lead AL second baseman and fifth in Ultimate Zone Rating per 150 games (UZR/150) at 7.5.

As the video above shows, Kinsler made a number of eyecandy plays this season, but we really like this one:
