Tigers prospect Beau Burrows struggles in Midwest League debut

Bowie Baysox 11, Erie SeaWolves 9 (box)

The SeaWolves jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead on Bowie starter Brian Matusz, who was making a rehab appearance. However, Erie starter Brennan Smith was just as leaky, allowing eight runs on eight hits in 3 1/3 innings of work. Tyler Bortnick hit a home run in the top of the eighth to cut the Bowie lead to two, but the SeaWolves went 1-2-3 in the ninth inning, dropping their third game of the season.

Jupiter Hammerheads 6, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4 (box)

After an early barrage of runs from both offenses, the Jupiter bullpen made a narrow lead stand up to take the opener of a four-game series. Blaine Hardy allowed a pair of runs in two innings in his rehab start, but struck out four. Artie Lewicki worked the next four innings for Lakeland, and took the loss when he allowed three runs on four hits and three walks. Joey Pankake and Christin Stewart homered for the Flying Tigers.

Lake County Captains 6, West Michigan Whitecaps 1 (box)

Top prospect Beau Burrows struggled in his Midwest League debut, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks in 3 2/3 innings of work. Jonathan Maciel wasn't much better in relief, allowing two runs in 2 1/3 innings. The Whitecaps offense somehow only mustered one run on 14 (!) hits, including a 4-for-4 night from right fielder Jose Azocar. Will Maddox, Arvicent Perez, and Josh Lester also had multi-hit games.
