Jose Azocar, Cam Gibson lead Whitecaps offense to big win

Indianapolis Indians 4, Toledo Mud Hens 2 (box)

The Indians scored four runs in the sixth inning to hand Matt Boyd his second loss of the young season. Pirates top prospect Josh Bell struck the big blow off Boyd, with a two-run double in the sixth. The Mud Hens out-hit the Indians 9-8, but were a dismal 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position. Former Tigers prospect Guido Knudson picked up the win for Indianapolis.

Bowie Baysox 5, Erie SeaWolves 1 (box)

Erie starter Cory Riordan was roughed up for five runs on 10 hits in 5 1/3 innings, resulting in his first loss of the season. Relievers Joe Mantiply and Gabe Hemmer were able to stop the bleeding, but a stagnant Erie offense left 10 men on base. Dominic Ficociello and Harold Castro led the way with a pair of hits apiece; all eight Erie hits were singles.

Bradenton Marauders 4, Lakeland Flying Tigers 2 (box)

A three-run fourth inning was enough to chase Lakeland starter Tyler Alexander to the showers, while Bradenton pitching held the Flying Tigers to six hits, splitting the four-game series. Joey Pankake led the Flyger offense with a double and a home run, while Curt Powell added an RBI double. Joe Jimenez threw a scoreless inning in relief.

West Michigan Whitecaps 9, Lake County Captains 3 (box)

The Whitecaps exploded for a pair of big innings, splitting their nine runs between the fourth and sixth frames of Monday's matchup at Fifth Third Ballpark. Jose Azocar had a pair of hits, including a triple, and drove in two runs. Brett Pirtle, Will Allen, and Cam Gibson also had multi-hit games. Whitecaps starter Eudis Idrogo scattered six hits in six innings, allowing just one run.
