Matt Boyd threw 6 1/3 shutout innings and was in line for his second win of the season, but Bobby Parnell and Bruce Rondon combined to allow four runs on five hits in the final two innings to spoil the evening. Boyd, who struck out four with one walk, has not allowed a run in his past two starts, a 14-1/3 inning scoreless streak. Cameron Maybin drove in a pair of runs for the Mud Hens offense, which finished the night 1-for-13 with runners in scoring position.

Akron RubberDucks 4, Erie SeaWolves 2 (box)
Akron jumped all over SeaWolves starter Matt Crouse, scoring four runs on three hits and two walks in the bottom of the first inning. They were held to just four hits over the final eight innings, but Erie didn't fare much better, scoring just two runs on six hits. Dean Green hit a home run, his sixth of the season, and drove in both SeaWolves runs in a two-hit game. Jeff McVaney also added a pair of hits for Erie.

Tampa's Jake Skole hit a two-out walk-off RBI single off Lakeland's Calvin Drummond, delivering the Flying Tigers their 14th loss of the season. Lakeland took an early 2-0 lead, and eventually took a 3-2 lead in the sixth inning on Christin Stewart's 11th home run of the season, but the score was tied at three after six innings before Skole's eventual walk-off. Starter Endrys Briceno had a solid outing, allowing two runs in five innings with six strikeouts.

The first five innings of Sandy Baez's start were a breeze, but Baez allowed three singles and a walk in the bottom of the sixth before departing, spoiling an otherwise stellar start. Baez allowed four runs (all in the sixth) on five hits in five-plus innings, striking out six. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps could not shake their LOBster bug. They went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and only scored two runs despite getting 11 runners on base.
