Tigers prospect Christin Stewart hits 12th home run of the season in loss

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers' farm system on Wednesday, May 11, 2016.

Toledo Mud Hens 7, Louisville Bats 5 (box)

The Mud Hens fell into a quick 5-0 deficit after reliever Jeff Ferrell was roughed up for four runs on five hits in two-thirds of an inning. The Mud Hens offense turned it on after that, however, scoring seven runs over the next three innings to take a 7-5 lead. Angel Nesbitt, Preston Guilmet, and Bruce Rondon combined for 5 1/3 scoreless innings to lock down the win. Nate Schierholtz and Wynton Bernard homered for Toledo.

Bernard: 3-4, 3B, HR, R, 3 RBI
McGehee: 3-4, R
Moya: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI
Schierholtz: 1-4, HR, R, 2 RBI, SO
Nesbitt (W): 2.1 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 SO

Coming up next: Thad Weber (4-1, 1.17 ERA) will take the mound for Toledo as the Mud Hens and Bats finish up their four-game series. Cody Reed (2-0, 1.46 ERA) will start for Louisville.

Akron RubberDucks 9, Erie SeaWolves 8 (box)

The SeaWolves led 3-0 and 5-1 at points in this game, but a see-saw affair eventually went Akron's way when the RubberDucks scored runs off Erie reliever Ruben Alaniz in the ninth and 10th innings. Erie's pitching was leaky all game long, but the offense was able to keep pace with eight runs on 12 hits and three walks. Dean Green and Jason Krizan homered for the SeaWolves, while Green and Corey Jones combined to drive in five of their team's eight runs.

D. Green: 2-5, HR, R, 3 RBI
C. Jones: 2-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI, SO
Krizan: 2-5, HR, 2 R, RBI
Ficociello: 2-5, RBI
Riordan: 5.0 IP, 6 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 4 SO

Coming up next: Myles Jaye (0-4, 5.28 ERA) will start against Bowie's Chris Lee (5-0, 2.30 ERA) as the Baysox pay visit to Jerry Uht Park for a four-game series.

Tampa Yankees 11, Lakeland Flying Tigers 4 (box)

Christin Stewart hit his 12th home run of the season, a two-run shot in the sixth inning that helped Lakeland rally from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game heading into the eighth inning. Unfortunately, Stewart's heroics were moot, as the Lakeland bullpen imploded, allowing eight (!) runs in the top of the eighth inning. Johan Belisario took the loss, as he and Confesor Lara combined to allow all eight runs. Wade Hinkle also homered for Lakeland.

Simcox: 2-4, R, BB, SO
Stewart: 1-3, HR, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB, 2 SO
Hinkle: 1-4, HR, R, RBI
Shepherd: 1-2, R, 2 BB, SO
Alexander: 6.0 IP, 2 H, 3 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: Jairo Labourt (3-0, 2.08 ERA) will make his seventh appearances of the season for Lakeland on Thursday at Henley Field. He has 31 strikeouts in 26 innings this year.

Lake County Captains 7, West Michigan Whitecaps 2 (box)

Whitecaps starter Jordan Smith did not have a good day, allowing six runs on nine hits in 4 1/3 innings. He did not walk a batter, but only struck out one. Kyle Dowdy worked the final 3 2/3 innings in relief, striking out four. Meanwhile, the Whitecaps offense continued to struggle with men on base, scoring just two runs on eight hits. Brett Pirtle, David Gonzalez, and Ismael Salgado doubled for the Whitecaps, while Will Allen hit a home run, the team's second of the year.

Pirtle: 2-3, 2B, R, BB, SO
Gonzalez: 2-4, 2B
Allen: 1-3, HR, R, RBI, BB, SO
Smith (L): 4.1 IP, 9 H, 6 ER, SO

Coming up next: The Whitecaps return home to kick off a four-game series with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, beginning on Thursday at 6:35 p.m. ET.
