Tigers prospect Austin Green delivers walkoff win for Erie SeaWolves

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers' farm system on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

Lehigh Valley IronPigs 5, Toledo Mud Hens 0 (box)

Toledo starter Matt Boyd worked seven strong innings, allowing two runs on five hits, but suffered his third loss of the season thanks to a listless Mud Hens offense. They would only manage four hits on the afternoon, two of which came from Casey McGehee. Lehigh Valley added more runs off reliever Bobby Parnell in the eighth, stretching their lead out to five runs before Blaine Hardy was able to limit the damage. Former Tigers prospect Jake Thompson got the win after throwing seven shutout innings.

McGehee: 2-4, 2B
Machado: 0-4, SO
Collins: 0-3, BB, 2 SO
Boyd (L): 7.0 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: Daniel Norris (0-3, 9.98 ERA) will make his first start since returning to the minor leagues as the Mud Hens kick off a three-game series with the Buffalo Bisons on Monday evening.

Erie SeaWolves 4, Bowie Baysox 3 (box)

Like their parent club, the SeaWolves scored a pair of late-inning runs to cap a comeback over the Baysox, Baltimore's Double-A affiliate. Austin Green provided the knockout blow, driving in Connor Harrell and Kody Eaves with a double after the two walked to open the bottom of the ninth. Green had two hits in the game, one of four SeaWolves to reach base twice. Harold Castro homered for Erie in the seventh, while starter Matt Crouse worked seven innings.

A. Green: 2-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SO
Castro: 2-3, HR, R, RBI
D. Green: 2-2, RBI, BB
Crouse: 7.0 IP, 4 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 SO
Valdez (W): 1.0 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, SO

Coming up next: The SeaWolves continue their homestand with a three-game series against the Harrisburg Senators beginning on Monday evening at 6:35 p.m. ET.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 5, Daytona Tortugas 4 (box)

Lakeland starter Endrys Briceno breezed through his first five innings, holding the Tortugas to three hits and a walk. He couldn't keep it together in the sixth, however, and departed after allowing three more hits. All three of those baserunners would come around to score, ruining his final line. The Lakeland offense was still able to deliver him a win, his first of the season. Christin Stewart reached base four times and drove in a run, while Joey Pankake homered and scored twice.

Stewart: 2-2, 2B, RBI, 2 BB
Pankake: 2-4, HR, 2 R, RBI
Verlander: 1-5, 2B, R, RBI, 2 SO
Briceno (W): 5.0 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, BB, 3 SO
Jimenez (S): 1.0 IP, 0 ER, 2 SO

Coming up next: Tyler Alexander (2-3, 2.36 ERA) takes the mound for Lakeland as they face Jacob Evans (2-2, 2.48 ERA) and the Palm Beach Cardinals.

West Michigan Whitecaps 1, Fort Wayne TinCaps 0 (box)

Leonard Laffita hit an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh to break a scoreless tie, and that would be all the offense the Whitecaps pitching staff needed for their second consecutive win. Laffita drove in Jose Azocar, who had singled and stolen second base earlier in the inning. The Whitecaps offense only managed five hits on the game, including two from David Gonzalez. Starter Kyle Dowdy worked four innings, striking out three. Reliever Jake Shull picked up the win.

Gonzalez: 2-4, SO
Azocar: 1-3, R, SB, SO
Dowdy: 4.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 SO
Shull (W): 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, BB, SO

Coming up next: The Whitecaps will enjoy an off day on Monday before taking on the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Tuesday. Sandy Baez (0-4, 4.76 ERA) will start for West Michigan in a 6:35 p.m. ET start.
