Tigers prospect JaCoby Jones returns from 50-game suspension

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers' farm system on Tuesday, May 17, 2016.

Toledo Mud Hens 7, Buffalo Bisons 1 (box)

Catcher Miguel Gonzalez went 4-for-5 with a double and two RBI as the Mud Hens exploded for all of the offense Daniel Norris did not get on Monday evening. The Hens scored seven runs on 14 hits, only two of which went for extra bases. This was plenty of room for starter Thad Weber, who scattered six hits and an unearned run in 7 1/3 innings for his fifth win. Dixon Machado, Casey McGehee, and Argenis Diaz all had multi-hit games.

Gonzalez: 4-5, 2B, R, 2 RBI, SO
McGehee: 2-5, R
Machado: 2-5, 2B, 2 R
Diaz: 2-5, 2 RBI
Weber (W): 7.1 IP, 6 H, R (0 ER), 2 SO

Coming up next: Josh Turley (2-3, 4.68 ERA) will try to bounce back from a rough start as the Mud Hens and Bisons play the rubber match of their three-game series.

Harrisburg Senators 6, Erie SeaWolves 2 (box)

In his first game back from a 50-game suspension, JaCoby Jones wasted no time getting settled, collecting a pair of hits and a stolen base. The rest of the Erie offense chipped in, collecting 10 hits as a group. Even starter Myles Jaye was feeling the good vibes, with seven innings of one-run ball. Unfortunately, only one of Erie's 10 hits went for extra bases, and the offense went 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. The Senators blew the game open with a five-run ninth off of Erie's bullpen, handing the SeaWolves their 22nd loss of the season.

Jones: 2-4, 2B, SB
McVaney: 2-5
Nunez: 2-5, R
Jaye: 7.0 IP, 5 H, ER, BB, 2 SO
Alaniz (L): 1.1 IP, 1 H, 3 ER, BB, 2 SO

Coming up next: Tommy Collier (3-2, 4.24 ERA) will try to get the SeaWolves back in the win column as they finish up their series with Harrisburg.

Palm Beach Cardinals 6, Lakeland Flying Tigers 0 (box)

Starter Jairo Labourt only lasted three innings, but allowed just two runs on two hits with three strikeouts. The problem? Five walks, which led to him throwing 74 pitches in those three frames. Labourt now has 27 walks in 32 1/3 innings this season, including 11 in his past two starts. The Lakeland bullpen bled runs throughout the night, but it would not matter, as their bats fell silent with just five hits and a walk. Palm Beach starter Matt Pearce went the distance, striking out six with one walk.

Kivett: 1-4, 2B
Stewart: 1-3, BB, SO
Labourt (L): 3.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 5 BB, 3 SO

Coming up next: A.J. Ladwig (6-1, 1.73 ERA) will start for Lakeland as they continue their four-game series with the Cardinals. Ian McKinney (2-3, 3.38 ERA) will start for Palm Beach.

West Michigan Whitecaps 6, Bowling Green Hot Rods 0 (box)

The Whitecaps jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back, taking the series opener from Bowling Green. Starter Sandy Baez did the rest, limiting Bowling Green to just two hits and two walks in seven shutout innings for his first win of the season. Offensively, Jose Azocar led the way with four hits. Rashad Brown added three hits of his own, and Shane Zeile had an RBI triple.

Azocar: 4-4, R, RBI
Brown: 3-4, 2 R
Gonzalez: 2-4, 3B, 3 R
Baez (W): 7.0 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: Jordan Smith (3-1, 5.33 ERA) faces a stiff test in Bowling Green's Henry Centeno (4-0, 0.77 ERA), who owns the best ERA in the Midwest League this season.
