West Michigan Whitecaps 7, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1 (box)

Whitecaps starter Matt Hall continued his dominance over the rest of the Midwest League, tossing 6 2/3 shutout innings with seven strikeouts to pick up his fifth win of the season. He didn't have much help from the Whitecaps offense early on, but they found their groove in the middle innings, scoring six of their seven runs off the Hot Rods' bullpen. Will Maddox led the way for West Michigan's offense, collecting a pair of hits and three RBI. Leonard Laffita also chipped in with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Derek Hill returned to action for the first time in nearly two weeks and stole a pair of bases.

Coming up next: Shane Greene is scheduled to make his first rehab start for the Whitecaps as they travel to Fort Wayne on Friday evening. Greene's timetable for return has not been set, but other Tigers pitchers -- namely, Daniel Norris and Alex Wilson -- made two rehab appearances in the lower minors before moving up to Triple-A Toledo when on the mend earlier this season. Greene will face Fort Wayne starter (and Padres top prospect) Jacob Nix.

The Erie SeaWolves enjoyed an off day on Thursday, and continue their road trip on Friday with a trip to Richmond. Newcomer Anthony Fernandez will start for Erie against Chase Johnson (1-3, 4.50 ERA) of the Flying Squirrels. The SeaWolves have a 16-23 record after being swept by the Harrisburg Senators and are in fifth place in the Eastern League's Western Division.

Lakeland's series finale against the Palm Beach Cardinals was postponed due to inclement weather. A makeup date has yet to be announced, although the two teams do not face one another again until July. The Flying Tigers will return home on Friday to kick off a four-game series against the Charlotte Stone Crabs at Henley Field. Jeff Thompson (2-0, 1.59 ERA) will start for Lakeland against Charlotte's Hunter Wood (2-2, 1.47 ERA).
