Derek Hill gets 3 hits in Whitecaps' loss

Toledo got rained out, Lakeland won, Erie and West Michigan lost.

Richmond Flying Squirrels 9, Erie SeaWolves 0 (box)

This one was put out of reach in a hurry, as starter Josh Turley allowed three runs in the first inning, and back-to-back home runs in the third. Not to be outdone, Santiago Garrido allowed a pair of back-to-back dingers of his own in the fifth inning. Not that it mattered, as the SeaWolves' offense couldn't muster a hit until the eighth inning, when JaCoby Jones broke up the no-hit bid with a single.

Jones: 1-4, SO
Turley (L): 3.0 IP, 8 H, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO
Mantiply: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 4 SO

Coming up next: Veteran Cory Riordan (3-3, 4.73 ERA) takes the mound Sunday afternoon in the rubber match between the SeaWolves and the Flying Squirrels.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 9, Charlotte Stone Crabs 5 (box)

The Flying Tigers posted a six-run second inning on the backs of a trio of doubles and some sloppy defense by their opponents, and would ride it to a win in a game that contained nine extra-base hits. Endrys Briceno got the start but would only last three innings, allowing five runs on five hits and a few errors. Austin Kubitza and Gabe Hemmer relieved him, pitching three clean innings apiece.

Frawley: 3-5, 2 2B, R, 2 RBI, SO
Stewart: 0-3, BB, 2 SO
Briceno: 3.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R (3 ER), 2 BB, 2 SO
Kubitza (W): 3.0 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 2 SO

Coming up next: Tyler Alexander (3-3, 1.96 ERA) will face Greg Harris (4-3, 3.27 ERA) and the Stone Crabs in another rubber match on Sunday afternoon.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 7, West Michigan Whitecaps 3 (box)

The TinCaps put up a quick two-spot in the first inning, only to allow the Whitecaps to tie the game in the top of the second, only to take the lead back with another run in the third. The Whitecaps tied the game again in the seventh with a big home run off the bat of Leo Laffita, but the other Caps just kept answering, and a home run in the bottom half of the inning would end up being the difference in this one.

Trent Szkutnik got the start, going five innings and allowing the first three runs to score. Jonathon Maciel came on in relief and took the loss after allowing the go-ahead homer in the seventh.

Hill: 3-4, 2B, RBI
Laffita: 3-4, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI
Azocar: 1-4, R
Szkutnik: 5.0 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 1 BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: Kyle Dowdy (1-0, 0.83 ERA) and Jean Cosme (3-2, 3.77 ERA) will face off on Sunday afternoon in -- oh hey, look, another rubber match. Neat.

The Toledo Mud Hens' game against the Lehigh Valley IronPigs was postponed due to rain. The game will be made up on Sunday as part of a double-header.
