Tigers prospect Christin Stewart hits 14th homer in Flying Tigers win

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers' farm system on Monday, May 23, 2016.

Erie SeaWolves 8, Reading Fightin' Phils 3 (box)

Connor Harrell hit two home runs, including a sixth-inning grand slam, to lead the SeaWolves to a big victory over Reading. JaCoby Jones also homered for Erie, his first of the season since returning from a 50-game suspension. The SeaWolves racked up 13 hits as a club, led by Corey Jones' trio of knocks. Starter Myles Jaye picked up his first win of the season after a strong six-inning, eight strikeout effort. The SeaWolves had lost five of their last six prior to Monday's win.

J. Jones: 2-5, HR, R, 2 RBI, SO

Lakeland Flying Tigers 6, Charlotte Stone Crabs 1 (box)

Jairo Labourt was his usual wild self, walking five batters in five innings of work. He got the job done, however, striking out six and allowing just one hit en route to his fourth win of the season. Labourt got some help from the Lakeland offense, which was solid nearly top to bottom. Christin Stewart, Ross Kivett, and Zach Shepherd hit solo home runs for the Flying Tigers, while each of Lakeland's top six hitters drove in a run. Michael Gerber, who has been quiet in 2016, had a pair of hits to raise his batting average to .211.

Stewart: 2-4, HR, R, RBI
Gerber: 2-4, 2B, R, RBI, 2 SO
Kivett: 1-4, HR, R, RBI, SO
Shepherd: 1-4, HR, R, RBI
Labourt (W): 5.0 IP, H, 0 ER, 5 BB, 6 SO

Coming up next: A.J. Ladwig (6-2, 2.08 ERA) will take the mound for the Flying Tigers as they travel to Dunedin for a three-game series against the Blue Jays.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 0 (box)

The TinCaps scored a pair of runs off Whitecaps starter Sandy Baez in the bottom of the first, and that was all they would need to roll to their 23rd win of the season. The Whitecaps offense managed just two hits, both off Fort Wayne starter Logan Allen. Baez ultimately had a strong outing, allowing just one earned run in six innings, but still suffered his fifth loss of the season.

Gonzalez: 1-3
Allen: 1-3, SO
Baez (L): 6.0 IP, 7 H, 3 R (1 ER), 4 SO

Coming up next: Jordan Smith (3-2, 5.34 ERA) will start for West Michigan on Tuesday evening as the Whitecaps continue their road trip with a three-game series against the Bowling Green Hot Rods.
