DETROIT -- Miguel Cabrera removed himself from Friday night's game for what was later announced by the Detroit Tigers as lower back tightness. Andrew Romine replaced him at third to pinch run. Cabrera is listed as day-to-day.

Cabrera had winced a couple of times during a swing and miss in his at-bat, prior to driving in a run. Then, about halfway to first base, he suddenly slowed up and winced in pain, but remained in the game.

He rounded second and eventually third on back-to-back hits by Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez, but was unable to remain in the game.

With the bases loaded, Cabrera turned and headed for the dugout. Head athletic trainer Kevin Rand came out to meet him but it was more of a formality. His night suddenly over, Cabrera headed down the steps under his own power.

He finished the day with the one hit and a walk in the first inning, striking out in the second.
