Tigers prospect Christin Stewart’s 3 RBI leads Lakeland to victory

Pawtucket Red Sox 4, Toledo Mud Hens 2 (box)

The Mud Hens out-hit the Red Sox 11-9, but a three-run homer from Pawtucket’s Christian Vasquez gave them enough offense to even the series. Toledo starter Cory Riordan allowed four runs on eight hits in six innings and suffered his first loss since moving up to Triple-A. The Mud Hens offense managed 10 hits against Pawtucket starter Justin Haley, but grounded into four double plays and stranded six runners on base. Dean Green and JaCoby Jones led the way with two hits apiece.

Harrisburg Senators 5, Erie SeaWolves 2 (box)

The Senators were able to consistently chip away at Erie starter Josh Turley, scoring a run in each of the first three innings before they added more in the later innings. Turley pitched into the eighth inning, but allowed five runs (four earned) on 11 hits. The SeaWolves offense had seven hits of their own, including three extra base hits, but went 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. Anthony Gose walked and stole a base, and Dominic Ficociello had two hits.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 5, Fort Myers Miracle 3 (box)

Christin Stewart hit a two-out, bases clearing double in the top of the fifth to stretch Lakeland’s lead to 5-0, and the Flying Tigers withstood a late push from the Fort Myers offense to win their second game in a row. Stewart also recorded a single and stole a base, his third of the season. A.J. Simcox added two hits and scored two runs, and Zac Shepherd reached base three times. Starter Jeff Thompson scattered five hits over seven shutout innings to earn the win.

Vermont Lake Monsters 3, Connecticut Tigers 2 (box)

Starter Alfred Gutierrez allowed two runs in four innings, but suffered his third loss of the season thanks to a sluggish Tigers offense. Connecticut managed just five hits on the evening and struck out nine times to zero walks. Josh Lester and Sam Machonis recorded RBI for the Tigers. The Connecticut bullpen was a bright spot, working five scoreless innings with six strikeouts. Zac Houston, John Schreiber, and Eduardo Jimenez all have ERAs under 1.00.
