Tigers’ Daniel Norris pitches into seventh inning during third rehab start

Erie SeaWolves 5, Reading Fightin Phils 3 (box)

Daniel Norris made his third rehab appearance, throwing 92 pitches and recording the win. He tallied seven strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings, allowing three runs and five hits along with two homers. The offense was able to pick him up, scoring two runs in the fourth inning off a Dominic Ficociello homer and three runs in the sixth inning thanks to doubles by Ficociello and Mike Gerber. Joe Jimenez pitched a perfect ninth to earn the save.

After the game it was announced that Jimenez is being promoted to Triple-A Toledo. In 20 2/3 innings with Erie, Jimenez owns a 2.18 ERA and 0.97 WHIP, and has struck out 14.9 batters per nine innings. He has a total of 62 strikeouts in 38 innings between Lakeland and Erie this season.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 11, Dunedin Blue Jays 6 (box)

The Flying Tigers got the win in a slugfest, putting up 11 runs on 11 hits. Five different Flying Tigers homered as Lakeland scored at least one run in each inning from the second to the seventh. Starter Matt Hall earned his third win of the season, pitching six innings while giving up three runs (two earned) and racking up eight strikeouts. While Zac Shepherd did have a homer, he had an awful day with his glove, recording three separate errors.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 1 (box)

The TinCaps snatched a late victory after a costly West Michigan error led to two runs in the eighth. Whitecaps starter Eudis Idrogo threw 5 2/3 innings of one-run ball, giving up seven hits and striking out three. The offense managed just six hits and one run, tying the game in the fifth inning on an Arvicent Perez RBI-single. Logan Longwith took the loss, giving up two runs in the eighth, both unearned.

Coming up next: The Whitecaps send Fernando Perez (3-5, 5.18 ERA) to the hill in the series finale in Fort Wayne against TineCaps starter Jean Cosme (7-5, 3.66 ERA).

The Mud Hens were off on Thursday but begin a three-game set against the Gwinnett Braves on Friday. Jordan Zimmermann (0-0, 0.00 ERA) will make his second rehab start for Toledo; he allowed four hits and no runs in four innings last Sunday. Zimmermann will square off against Roberto Hernandez (4-5, 4.33 ERA).
