Miguel Cabrera was removed from the Detroit Tigers’ game on Monday night against the Kansas City Royals after his second at-bat. Cabrera was seen grimacing and favoring his upper arm and shoulder area after flying out in the bottom of the fourth inning.
This injury likely occurred during the very beginning of the game. Cheslor Cuthbert hit a comebacker to Daniel Norris, who knocked the ball down not far from the mound. Norris hastily recovered the ball and inaccurately threw it to first base, where Cabrera tried to reach for the throw while avoiding Cuthbert, who was charging down the baseline. Cabrera ultimately let the throw sail past him on Norris’s error but was hit on the left arm as the runner ran by.
Cabrera made his first plate appearance shortly after and stayed in the game until his next at-bat, at which point he was clearly hurt. At this time there is no confirmation of what type of injury the slugger sustained.
UPDATE:
Miguel Cabrera left tonight's game with a left biceps strain and is day to day.
