Ron Gardenhire has a message for Tigers fans

The Tigers’ new skipper released a statement Friday

As we all know by now, the Detroit Tigers manager search ended Thursday night when it was reported the team picked former Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire for the vacant position. The Tigers held a press conference at Comerica Park for the new manager Friday afternoon — Gardenhire is wearing No. 15 — and afterward the skipper made a statement that was emailed to the fanbase. Gardenhire’s message is below:

Dear Tigers Fans,

It's truly an honor to be here in Detroit - a city with such a rich baseball history and passionate fan base.

From all my years in the visiting dugout it was impossible to miss that this is a championship organization. I'm thrilled to be at the helm of our charge to bring World Series Championships to Comerica Park.

Thank you for the warm welcome and I'm looking forward to seeing you all at the ballpark next season.

Sincerely,

Ron Gardenhire
