USA Today projects Tigers to win 85 games in 2017

The pundits at USA Today think the Tigers will finish second in the AL Central, but miss the postseason.

Every year, the fine folks at USA Today publish their projected standings for the upcoming MLB season. These often aren’t subject to the same computerized rigors of systems like PECOTA or ZiPS — they did pick the White Sox to make the playoffs last season, after all — but are projections all the same.

Most Detroit Tigers fans are probably expecting a second place finish in 2017, but missing the playoffs for a third consecutive season would be a major disappointment.
