Christin Stewart homers as SeaWolves sweep double-header

Durham Bulls 4, Toledo Mud Hens 3 (F/11) (box)

The Mud Hens rallied back from an early deficit to take this one to extra innings, but reliever Mike Zagurski surrendered a walkoff double in the eleventh. Starter Anthony Vasquez gave the Mud Hens a solid outing, going six innings with three earned runs. The bullpen was also sharp, piecing together four scoreless innings to give the offense plenty of chances to come back in this one. RF Jason Krizan launched a solo shot in the losing effort, while LF David Lough chipped in three hits of his own.

Krizan: 3-5, 2 R, RBI, HR

Moya: 0-5, 5 SO

Vasquez: 6.0 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, HR, BB, 3 SO

Rondon: 1.0 IP, SO

Mujica: 2.0 IP, H, 2 SO

Erie SeaWolves 2, Hartford Yard Goats 0 (Game One) (box)

Tyler Alexander put together his best outing of the season, and Christin Stewart cracked his Eastern League leading 10th home run as the SeaWolves took game one of the Sunday double-header. Alexander went five innings, punching out five. Jairo Labourt and Sean Donatello spun two scoreless innings of relief with Donatello picking up the save. SS A.J. Simcox had a double and the SeaWolves other RBI in the winning effort.

Stewart: 2-3, R, RBI, HR, SO

Simcox: 2-3, RBI, 2B

Alexander (W, 2-3): 5.0 IP, 5 H, 2 BB, 5 SO

Erie SeaWolves 4, Hartford Yard Goats 0 (Game Two) (box)

The SeaWolves pitching staff continued its dominance over the Yard Goats in game two. Starter Artie Lewicki punched out six against just two hits to get the victory. Poor defense plagued the Yard Goats as they gave up four runs on four hits and two walks. RF Jeff McVaney and CF Mike Gerber had the SeaWolves two RBI, while LF Christin Stewart walked twice and scored a run.

Stewart: 0-1, R, 2 BB SO

McVaney: 1-4, R, RBI, 3B, 2 SO

Lewicki (W, 2-1): 5.0 IP, 2 H, 6 SO

Garrido: 1.0, H, 2 SO

Coming Up Next: The SeaWolves will be idle on Monday, and welcome in the Reading Fighting Phils for a three-game set starting Tuesday.

The Lakeland Flying Tigers were off on Sunday. Sandy Baez (0-2, 14.21 ERA) will get the call on Monday as they welcome in the St. Lucie Mets.

Likewise, the West Michigan Whitecaps also had Sunday off. The Bowling Green Hot Rods come to town on Monday for a three game series. Kyle Funkhouser (3-1, 3.91 ERA) will get the call in game one.
