JaCoby Jones and Argenis Diaz drove in runs in the top of the eight to give the Mud Hens a 2-1 lead, but reliever Logan Kensing allowed the tying run in the bottom half of the frame. After two scoreless innings on both sides, Toledo lefty Mike Zagurski gave up the winning run in the bottom of the 11th. The loss spoiled a strong start from William Cuevas, who gave up a solo home run in five innings of work.

Matt Crouse scattered six hits in 7 2⁄3 scoreless innings to earn his fourth win of the season. He struck out three and walked two. Ruben Alaniz recorded the last four outs for his third save of the season. Christin Stewart and Harold Castro drove in runs for the SeaWolves, who snapped a five-game losing streak with the win.

The Flying Tigers may have clawed back from a two-run deficit in the final innings to win in extras, but the real story of this game was Kyle Funkhouser. Making his High-A debut, Funkhouser struck out 10 batters in 7 2⁄3 innings. He allowed two runs on just three hits and did not walk a batter. Offensively, Luis Valdes and Ben Verlander hit solo home runs to erase the 2-0 deficit, while Jose Azocar scampered home on a Verlander single in the bottom of the 11th.
