The Detroit Tigers have recalled catcher John Hicks from the Toledo Mud Hens according to John Wagner of the Toledo Blade. James McCann was hit in the left hand by a Mike Fiers’ fastball during Thursday night’s game against the Houston Astros. He was clearly bleeding, and the injury is described as a laceration to his left hand.
With a double-header scheduled against the Chicago White Sox on Friday, Hicks will be pressed into duty in a tough spot. Presumably he will catch the night game due to his familiarity with Buck Farmer, who has also been recalled for a spot start in game two of the double-header.
John Hicks will be called up from @MudHens to #Tigers for tomorrow's game.

There is no word yet on whether McCann’s injury is serious enough to put him on the 10-day disabled list. He appeared to be bleeding substantially, so a trip to the DL seems a likely possibility. Should the Tigers choose not to do so, their choices are likely to be limited to optioning outfielder Mikie Mahtook down to Toledo, or designating Tyler Collins or Dixon Machado for assignment.
Update: Manager Brad Ausmus confirmed in Thursday’s post-game interview that James McCann would be added to the 10 day disabled list.
