As the Tigers prepare for a weekend double header against the Chicago White Sox, the news out of the clubhouse isn’t good. Tiger’s second baseman Ian Kinsler—who was benched briefly earlier this month for a hamstring issue—has been placed on the 10-day disabled list.

Kinsler, who sat out the bulk of Friday’s game in preparation for the Saturday double header, was previously out for five games. It seems likely he has reaggravated the existing injury, rather than this being a case of a new complaint.

While it is still relatively early in the season, this news doesn’t bode well for the Tigers, who are currently only half a game ahead of the White Sox in the AL Central standings.

In addition to Kinsler’s injury, the Tigers made another move, optioning relief pitcher Chad Bell to the Triple-A Toledo Mud Hens. Bell had gone nine scoreless innings since his MLB debut, until giving up a 3-run home run to Melky Cabrera in Friday’s game.
