A three-run fifth inning helped the Mud Hens create a 7-3 lead, but Logan Kensing and Kyle Ryan combined to allow five runs in the eighth and ninth inning to squander away the win. JaCoby Jones homered and scored two runs for Toledo, and Argenis Diaz added three hits. William Cuevas was inefficient in his start, throwing 90 pitches to get through five innings with three runs (two earned) allowed.

J.D. Martinez hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning to help Lakeland snap a five-game losing streak. The Flying Tigers scored six runs in the fourth and added a run in the fifth to build a commanding 7-0 lead for starter Matt Hall, who allowed just one run in six strong innings. The bottom of the lineup came through for Lakeland on Saturday; their 6-9 hitters combined for nine of the team’s 12 hits. Martinez started the game in right field, and was replaced by Ben Verlander in the bottom of the eighth.

Josh Lester hit an RBI double to right in the fourth inning to give West Michigan a 1-0 lead, and the Whitecaps pitching staff made that single run stand up for the win. Austin Sodders was electric in his start, striking out nine while allowing just four hits and a walk in six innings. Justin Foley and Bryan Garcia combined to work three scoreless innings out of the bullpen, with Garcia recording his sixth save of the year. Blaise Salter led the Whitecaps with three hits, but the only extra base knocks were doubles from Lester and Anthony Pereira.
