Monday marks the start of 2017 first-year player draft, and you can follow along with all of the action right here on Bless You Boys. Coverage of the draft begins at 6:00 Monday evening on MLB Network and MLB.com, with the first pick scheduled for an hour thereafter.

The Tigers’ first pick will be the 18th overall, the second consecutive year they have picked in the top 20. In nearly a decade prior, the Tigers only selected one player in the top 20, a big reason behind the lack of depth in their farm system. Whoever the Tigers select 18th will likely join Matt Manning, Beau Burrows, and Christin Stewart at the top of their prospect ranks.

One of the Tigers’ division rivals, the Minnesota Twins, will have the first overall pick. While many believe they will select the consensus most-talented player — Hunter Greene, a right-handed pitcher out of Sherman Oaks, California — recent reports suggest that they may prefer a more conservative approach, and select a more developed college arm instead.

Other names to look for at the top of the draft are Vanderbilt's Kyle Wright or Jeren Kendall, Louisville's Brendan McKay, and prep players Mackenzie Gore and Royce Lewis. It’s possible, though unlikely, that one of these players could drop to the Tigers’ 18th pick. Make sure to check Bless You Boys throughout the evening for Tigers-related draft updates.
