Tigers prospect Dawel Lugo collects 2 RBI in Erie SeaWolves win

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers farm system on Wednesday, July 26, 2017.

Pawtucket Red Sox 7, Toledo Mud Hens 1 (box)

Myles Jaye was excellent through five innings, holding the Red Sox lineup scoreless while his team held a slim 1-0 lead. Unfortunately, he fell apart in the sixth. Jaye pitched to five batters in the inning but did not record an out, and that close lead turned into a rout. Jaye was eventually charged with four earned runs on eight hits, resulting in his fourth loss this year with Toledo. Jim Adduci drove in Toledo’s only run, and had two of their six hits.

Adduci: 2-4, RBI
Infante: 1-3, R, BB, SB
Jaye (L): 5.0 IP, 8 H, 5 R (4 ER), 2 BB, 2 SO

Coming up next: Buck Farmer (3-4, 4.53 ERA) will start for the Mud Hens on Thursday as they close out their four-game series against Pawtucket.

Erie SeaWolves 6, Bowie Baysox 3 (box)

The SeaWolves jumped out to an early 6-0 lead, scoring in each of the first three innings. Wade Hinkle hit a three-run homer in the third to cap the scoring, but an RBI single from Dawel Lugo and a bases loaded walk from Gabriel Quintana also paced the Erie offense. Lugo was one of Erie’s top performers on the day, with a pair of hits to go along with his two RBI. Starter Artie Lewicki ran into trouble in the sixth inning, but picked up his ninth win of the season after Kurt Spomer and the Erie bullpen stopped the bleeding. Victor Alcantara tossed a scoreless frame, and Paul Voelker picked up his fourth save of the year.

Hinkle: 2-4, HR, R, 3 RBI, SO
Lugo: 2-5, 2 RBI
Greiner: 2-3, R, BB, SO
Lewicki (W): 5.1 IP, 4 H, 3 R (2 ER), 2 BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: Beau Burrows (3-3, 4.76 ERA) will take the mound for Erie as they travel to Richmond for a weekend series against the Flying Squirrels.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 5, Fort Myers Miracle 2 (box)

The Flying Tigers exploded for five runs in the fourth inning, and made their lead stand up the rest of the way in a win over Fort Myers. Spencer Turnbull dominated for Lakeland, allowing a single run on one hit in seven superb innings. He walked three and only struck out three, but lowered his season-long ERA to 3.57 in the win. Offensively, the Flygers were led by Will Maddox, who had two hits and a pair of RBI. Blaise Salter and Josh Lester chipped in with two hits apiece, and Lester picked up an RBI on a single in the fourth.

Maddox: 2-5, R, 2 RBI
Salter: 2-4, SO
Lester: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Azocar: 2-4, R, RBI, SO
Turnbull (W): 7.0 IP, H, ER, 3 BB, 3 SO

Coming up next: Josh Turley (2-1, 0.80 ERA) will start for the Flying Tigers on Thursday as they continue their series against Fort Myers.

Fort Wayne TinCaps 4, West Michigan Whitecaps 3 (F/11) (box)

The Whitecaps took a 3-0 lead into the ninth inning, but Eudis Idrogo’s bid for a complete game fell short. He allowed two hitters to reach base, and reliever Trent Szkutnik could not keep the TinCaps from scoring three runs to tie the game. The Whitecaps offense couldn’t break the tie in the ninth or 10th, and Fort Wayne capped off the comeback with another run off Szkutnik in the 11th. Derek Hill had a solid game for the Whitecaps; he reached base three times, stole a base, and drove in a run.

Hill: 2-5, RBI, BB, SO, SB
Bauml: 2-6, RBI
Machonis: 2-4, 2 R, BB, SO
Idrogo: 8.0 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: Alfred Gutierrez (7-5, 3.66 ERA) will start for West Michigan on Thursday against Fort Wayne.

The Connecticut Tigers were off on Wednesday. They will take on the Vermont Lake Monsters on Thursday evening at Dodd Stadium.
