Tigers DH Victor Martinez singled to left in the second inning on Friday to record the 2000th hit of his career. He received a nice ovation from the Cleveland fans in attendance.
Martinez played for the Indians for the first eight years of his career, recording 900 hits with that organization. He now has 880 hits in six seasons with the Tigers, along with 220 that came during his two years with the Red Sox.
Martinez is the ninth active player in the majors to have at least 2,000 career hits. Teammate Miguel Cabrera has 2,589.
