Mud Hens cruise behind another fine outing from Artie Lewicki

Scores, news, and notes from around the Detroit Tigers’ farm system for Sunday, August 28, 2017.

Toledo Mud Hens 3, Louisville Bats 0 (box)

Artie Lewicki was excellent again on Sunday. He scattered seven hits over 6 13 innings with seven strikeouts. Blaine Hardy and Edward Mujica cleaned up the rest of the way. On the other side of the ball, a three-run shot off the bat of Dominic Ficociello accounted for the Hens’ offense.

Ficociello: 1-3, R, 3 RBI, HR, SO
Lewicki (W): 6.1 IP, 4 H, 7 SO

Coming Up Next: Chad Bell (1-4, 3.38 ERA) gets the start for the Hens on Monday.

Akron RubberDucks 6, Erie SeaWolves 4 (box)

Beau Burrows had a rough day on Sunday. He allowed a pair of home runs, lasting just four innings with five strikeouts. We are still seeing some growing pains from the advanced righthander. Christin Stewart had a pair of doubles, while Zack Cox doubled and scored two runs.

Stewart: 2-4, RBI, 2 2B
Cox: 2-4, 2 R, 2B
Burrows (L): 4.0 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 5 SO

Coming Up Next: Matt Hall (1-0, 3.13 ERA) starts for the SeaWolves on Monday.

Lakeland Flying Tigers 3, Clearwater Threshers 1 (F/5) (box)

Constant rain has caused the postponement of multiple games in recent days for the Flying Tigers. They had a double-header scheduled on Sunday, and managed to get one game — albeit a five inning game — in, finally. Gregory Soto continues to maul hitters, punching out seven of them in just 4 13 innings of work. He walked three and allowed one run before Jeff Thompson came on to clean up the final two outs. Jake Robson tripled and drove in a pair of runs, while Derek Hill scored two and added a steal to his tally for the day.

Robson: 2-3, R, 2 RBI, 3B, SO
Soto (W): 4.1 IP, ER, 4 H, 3 BB, 7 SO

Coming Up Next: Austin Sodders (3-4, 2.15 ERA) starts for the Flying Tigers on Dollar Monday... weather permitting.

West Michigan Whitecaps 8, Bowling Green Hot Rods 5 (box)

Spencer Watkins gave up three runs in the first inning courtesy of some sloppy defensive work. The Whitecaps roared right back, though. Danny Pinero’s two-run double was the big hit in a three-run inning of their own. They came out in the second and took control with a two-run single from Isaac Paredes, and never looked back. Spenser Watkins settled in for five innings, and Evan Hill and Clate Schmidt cleaned up the late innings.

Pinero: 3-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Paredes: 2-2, R, 2 RBI, 2 BB
Watkins (W): 5.0 IP, 4 R, ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 5 SO

Coming Up Next: Tom de Blok (3-2, 3.50 ERA) gets the call on JQ99 Bulletin Night.

Connecticut Tigers 5, Hudson Valley Renegades 4 (box)

Dylan Rosa and Garrett McCain each homered to power the Tigers to victory on Sunday. Dane Myers scuffled, but got through 4 23 innings, while the bullpen was solid once again.

Rosa: 1-3, R, RBI, HR
McCain: 2-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, HR, 2B

Coming Up Next: Oswaldo Castillo (2-2, 2.36 ERA) starts for the Tigers on Monday against Aberdeen.
