Justin Verlander has many career accomplishments to his name. Six-time All-Star. Cy Young winner. Two no-hitters. He’s a Hall of Fame inductee waiting to happen. But there was one thing Verlander was missing from his list until today.
An RBI.
In 13 seasons — all spent as an American League pitcher — Verlander has only three hits to his name for his whole career, and had never before driven in a run. He can now scratch that milestone off his to-do list, after knocking in a run off Colorado Rockies pitcher Chad Bettis, allowing James McCann to score.

Sure, it’s not a huge accomplishment by most standards, but it’s a big deal for a guy who so clearly enjoys taking swings.
Most innocent moment of 2017: Watching the pure ecstasy from Verlander during batting practice in Oakland when he hit a pair of BP bombs.

Let’s just hope this doesn’t make him too appealing to NL teams, now.
