The Detroit Tigers sent their last remaining star outfielder, Justin Upton, to the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday afternoon ahead of the midnight ET waiver trade deadline. Upton has an opt-out option on his contract after this season, so it’s possible Detroit would have lost the slugger for nothing at the end of the year.
The Tigers received 23-year-old right-handed pitcher Grayson Long from the Angels, in addition to an unnamed amount of cash and a Player To Be Named Later (PTBNL).
Long is currently at the Double-A level and has a 2.52 ERA there in 23 starts this season.
