FanPost Friday: What are you thankful for this season?

It wasn’t a winning year, but we can still be grateful.

MLB: Detroit Tigers at Minnesota Twins Brad Rempel-USA TODAY Sports

It can be difficult to be thankful when things don’t turn out the way you hope. When your wishes for an event don’t come to fruition, and you find yourself disenchanted or frustrated, that’s when it’s the hardest to look at the positive side.

Tigers fans, at a glance, didn’t have much to be thankful for in 2018. The team ended the season with a bottom-five record, players were dogged by injuries, and the rebuild wrapped up its first year with a fizzle instead of a bang.

But I think, especially in this season where we are meant to reflect on the blessings off the year — while stuffing ourselves with turkey — that it’s a great time to think about all the positives of the Tigers season.

I, personally, am thankful for Ron Gardenhire’s Kelly Clarkson ringtone that he keeps on full volume in press conferences. I’m thankful for Nick Castellanos’s bubblegum habit, and the newfound earnestness he discovered in interviews. I’m thankful for Niko Goodrum’s unexpectedly good year. I’m thankful I got to watch Victor Martinez take his final bow at Comerica.

There are plenty of things we can pinpoint that have nothing to do with wins and losses, and say “yes, there were positive aspects of this season. Reasons to be hopeful.”
