4 Moves The Tigers Need To Make in December

The final list of free agents is now available. Given the Tigers (plentiful) needs, here are 4 moves the Tigers need to make now.

  1. Sign Asivail Garcia to 2 Year Deal – I think we can all agree that the Tigers outfield in 2018 was terrible, Other than Nicholas Castellanos, the Tigers best outfield hitter at the end of the season was Victor Reyas. The Tigers need some power and protection for Migual Cabrerra and that's should be a guy like Asivail Garcia. Garcia isn't perfect – although being reconnected with Miggy could well be a positive. But he has power and that's something Detroit desperately needs. Sign him for 2 years at $7.0 MM per year.

  1. Sign Leonys Martin to a 1 Year Deal – The Tigers need a CF who is decent defensively and can hit better than Jacoby Jones and that person is Martin. He was OK for Detroit last year and, assuming that he has recovered from his illness and can pass a physical, he would again be a good fit. Sign him for 1 year for $2.0 MM.

  1. Sign Wilmer Flores to a 2 year deal – The Tigers desperately need a SS and Flores is available, reasonably priced and adequate, both defensively and offensively. Sign him for 2 years at $4.0 MM per year.

  1. Trade Nichols Castellnos for ??? – There is essentially no way the Tigers are going to sign Castellnos to the 2020 extension he is going to want. The Tigers need to maximize his value by trading him this winter. I have no idea what the market will be for him but Detroit is likely to get at least one promising AAA player.
