Well, we had to wait an extra day, but the Detroit Tigers’ 2018 season will finally open today. Jordan Zimmermann gets his first Opening Day start for the Tigers. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m., and the weather looks like it’s going to cooperate. Meanwhile, the lineup looks much like we expected. Ron Gardenhire wasn’t exactly keeping his plans secret this spring, and we’ll just see how things unfold as the season progresses.
- CF-Leonys Martin
- 3B-Jeimer Candelario
- 1B-Miguel Cabrera
- RF-Nicholas Castellanos
- DH-Victor Martinez
- C-James McCann
- LF-Mikie Mahtook
- SS-Jose Iglesias
- 2B-Dixon Machado
No big surprises here at all. The Leonys Martin experiment will be interesting to watch after a fine spring for the center fielder. Candelario’s on-base and switch-hitting abilities make him a good choice to hit second. The rest is pretty much textbook.
The Pirates will counter with RHP Ivan Nova, and they have their lineup set as well.
