Watch Tigers prospect Jake Rogers throw an unsuspecting base stealer out by a mile

Don’t be surprised if this poor Mets player gets cut tomorrow.

MLB: Detroit Tigers-Media Day Reinhold Matay-USA TODAY Sports

When the Detroit Tigers acquired catcher Jake Rogers from the Houston Astros last summer, all anyone could talk about was his defense. MLB Pipeline named him the best defensive catcher in all the minor leagues last year, and most scouts think he could be a Gold Glove-caliber defender in the majors right now.

We got a glimpse of that defensive prowess on Monday when Rogers ended some poor New York Mets prospect’s career.

That poor, poor baserunner is Kevin Kaczmarski, a 26-year-old outfielder who was a ninth round pick of the Mets in 2015. He put up a solid showing in Double-A Binghamton last season and has stolen 49 bases in three minor league seasons, but had zero chance on that quick catch and release from Rogers.

Like, zero chance.

Usually only Victor Martinez gets thrown out by that much. Here’s to many more crazy videos from our catcher of the future.
