Tigers prospect Christin Stewart hits game-winning home run for Mud Hens

Scores, news, and notes from the Detroit Tigers’ farm system on Tuesday, April 17, 2018.

Toledo Mud Hens 2, Durham Bulls 1 (box)

Ryan Carpenter shrugged off an early run to post a dominant outing, and a couple of late runs sealed a 2-1 win for the Mud Hens. Carpenter allowed just the one run on five hits in six innings, and struck out nine Bulls hitters along the way. Kevin Comer picked up the win in relief, striking out five of the six batters he faced. Christin Stewart’s solo home run in the seventh inning provided the difference for Toledo offensively, even though they were held to just three hits.

Stewart: 1-3, HR, R, RBI, 2 SO
Lugo: 1-4, R
Carpenter: 6.0 IP, 5 H, ER, 2 BB, 9 SO
Comer (W): 1.2 IP, 0 ER, BB, 5 SO

Coming up next: The Mud Hens will aim to finish off a three-game sweep of the Bulls on Wednesday evening at Fifth Third Field.

Erie SeaWolves: postponed

The SeaWolves were postponed due to snowy conditions on Tuesday. They will play a doubleheader against the Trenton Thunder starting at 3:05 p.m. ET at UMPC Park. Beau Burrows (1-0, 0.00 ERA) will start the first game for Erie, and Kyle Dowdy (1-1, 2.35 ERA) will get the nod in Game 2.

Jupiter Hammerheads 4, Lakeland Flying Tigers 3 (F/11) (box)

Gregory Soto lasted just two innings for Lakeland, walking four hitters and allowing two unearned runs. He threw just 38 pitches, but there have been no updates on why he departed the game so early. The bullpen did a stellar job the rest of the way, holding the Hammerheads scoreless until the bottom of the 10th, when they tied the game at 3. Trent Szkutnik took the loss for Lakeland when he gave up another run in the 11th. Offensively, the Flygers were paced by Isaac Paredes, who had another two-hit game.

Paredes: 2-5, 2 SO
Gibson: 1-4, BB, SO, 2 SB
Pereira: 1-5, 3B, R, SO
Soto: 2.0 IP, H, 2 R (0 ER), 4 BB, 2 SO

Coming up next: The Flying Tigers and Hammerheads will continue their series on Wednesday starting at 6:30 p.m. ET.

West Michigan Whitecaps: postponed

The Whitecaps were postponed again on Tuesday, marking their fourth (!) consecutive day without baseball. They will attempt to play a doubleheader against the Bowling Green Hot Rods on Wednesday starting at 12:00 p.m. ET. Garett King (0-0, 4.15 ERA) will start Game 1 for West Michigan, and Burris Warner (1-0, 1.13 ERA) will take the ball for Game 2.
