Toledo Mud Hens 3, Pawtucket Red Sox 0 (F/7) (box)
Blaine Hardy blanked the Red Sox for six innings, allowing just one hit and one walk in the first half of a doubleheader on Monday. Hardy struck out four and collected his second win of the young season. Offensively, the Hens were led by Dawel Lugo and Jim Adduci, who each hit solo home runs. Pete Kozma also drove in a run, and Jarrod Saltalamacchia had two hits. Lugo’s homer was his first of the year.
Saltalamacchia: 2-3, 2B
Lugo: 1-4, HR, R, RBI, 2 SO
Adduci: 1-3, HR, R, RBI, SO
Hardy (W): 6.0 IP, H, 0 ER, BB, 4 SO
Pawtucket Red Sox 6, Toledo Mud Hens 4 (F/8) (box)
The Red Sox and Mud Hens were tied at two through seven innings in the second half of their doubleheader, but Pawtucket tagged Toledo reliever Paul Voelker for four runs in the top of the eighth — Pawtucket served as the road team in this game despite playing in their home ballpark — to take a 6-2 lead. The Mud Hens scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning, but couldn’t finish the comeback. Jim Adduci hit a second homer for the Mud Hens and drove in two runs. Grayson Greiner also homered, his first of the year. Josh Turley struck out nine hitters in 5 2⁄3 innings.
Lugo: 2-4, 2B, RBI
Adduci: 2-4, 2B, HR, 2 R, 2 RBI, SO
Greiner: 1-2, HR, R, RBI, BB, SO
Turley: 5.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, BB, 9 SO
Coming up next: The Red Sox and Mud Hens will continue their series at 6:15 p.m. ET on Tuesday. Chad Bell (0-0, 2.70 ERA) is scheduled to start for Toledo.
Altoona Curve 7, Erie SeaWolves 0 (box)
Beau Burrows didn’t make it through the fifth inning in this one, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits in 4 1⁄3 frames. He had trouble finding the strike zone, and walked three hitters to just one strikeout. He got little help from Erie’s offense, which was limited to just four hits (all singles) and one walk by Altoona pitching. Sergio Alcantara had one of those hits for Erie, and is batting .321 this season.
Alcantara: 1-4, 2 SO
Ficociello: 1-4, 2 SO
Burrows (L): 4.1 IP, 6 H, 5 R (4 ER), 3 BB, SO
Coming up next: Sandy Baez (0-1, 3.68 ERA) will start for the SeaWolves on Tuesday as they continue their series against Altoona.
Lakeland Flying Tigers: postponed
The Flygers saw their game against the Dunedin Blue Jays postponed on Monday due to wet grounds. They will play the makeup game as part of a doubleheader on Wednesday. Their Tuesday matchup against Dunedin will be played as scheduled, a 10:30 a.m. start at Publix Field. Alex Faedo (0-2, 3.31 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Flying Tigers.
Lake County Captains 2, West Michigan Whitecaps 1 (box)
The Whitecaps scored a run in the top of the second, and nearly made their 1-0 lead stand up for a win. Unfortunately, the Captains were able to put a pair of runs across against reliever John Hayes for the ‘W.’ Eudis Idrogo had a strong start for the Whitecaps, holding the Captains to four runs in six innings. Cole Peterson and Colby Bortles doubled for West Michigan, and Zac Shepherd reached base twice.
Bortles: 1-4, 2B, SO
Peterson: 1-4, 2B, SO, SB
Idrogo: 6.0 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO
Coming up next: Garett King (0-0, 1.59 ERA) will start for the Whitecaps on Tuesday against Lake County’s Francisco Perez (0-0, 5.19 ERA).
