Tigers prospects Dawel Lugo, Christin Stewart shine in Mud Hens loss

Indianapolis Indians 10, Toledo Mud Hens 7 (box)

The Indians jumped on Toledo start Paul Voelker early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning to open up a big lead. Toledo’s offense battled back over the next few innings to close the gap to one run, but Mud Hens reliever James Russell coughed up four runs in the top of the fourth. The Indians maintained their five-run lead for the middle innings, and scored a 10th run in the top of the eighth before Toledo continued Monday’s #FalseHope narrative with a three-run eighth.

Dawel Lugo and Christin Stewart led the way for the Mud Hens, combining for five of the team’s 10 hits. Lugo doubled and tripled, while Stewart hit his fourth home run of the season and drove in three runs. Lugo also stole his first base of the year. The Mud Hens dropped to 15-7 with the loss.

Coming up next: Artie Lewicki (2-1, 5.79 ERA) will start for the Mud Hens on Tuesday as they continue their series against the Indians at 6:35 p.m. ET. Clay Holmes (0-0, 2.45 ERA) will start for Indianapolis.

Erie SeaWolves 6, Bowie Baysox 2 (box)

Beau Burrows got back on track after a shaky outing last week, and held the Baysox to two runs in six strong innings on Monday. He struck out six and walked one en route to his second win of the year. The SeaWolves offense helped him out with three runs in the bottom of the first inning, and a run apiece in each of the next three frames. Josh Lester did most of the damage with a bases clearing double. Kody Eaves also added a homer. The SeaWolves improved to 8-14 with the win.

Lakeland Flying Tigers: off day

The Flying Tigers were off on Monday after going 5-2 last week. They are currently 11-13 on the year, third place in the Florida State League’s North Division. The Flygers are five games behind Daytona, who leads the division with an 18-6 record. Lakeland is back in action on Tuesday, when they will take on the Clearwater Threshers at 7:00 p.m. ET. Austin Sodders (0-2, 5.64 ERA) will start for Lakeland.

West Michigan Whitecaps: off day

The Whitecaps were also off on Monday after dropping a weekend series against Lansing. The ‘Caps will kick off a six-game road trip on Tuesday against the Peoria Chiefs at 7:30 p.m. ET. Garett King (0-1, 3.31 ERA) will start for West Michigan, who are 14-9 and 1 12 games out of first place on the year.
