Mud Hens earn a sweep behind Kyle Dowdy’s solid start

Toledo Mud Hens 3, Charlotte Knights 2 (box)

The Mud Hens swept the Knights on Thursday, winning each game in the series by a score of 3-2. Kyle Dowdy tossed five innings of one-run ball, and was backed up by fine relief from Paul Voelker and Phillippe Aumont. Christin Stewart doubled and drove in a run with a two-hit game, while Ronny Rodriguez also pitched in with a pair of hits and two runs scored. Kevin Comer allowed a late run, but was able to slam the door on the Knights to earn the save.

Stewart: 2-4, R, RBI, 2B, BB

Rodriguez: 2-4, 2 R, SO

Dowdy (W): 5.0 IP, ER, 5 H, 2 SO

Coming Up Next: The 26-12 Mud Hens welcome in the Gwinnett Braves for a three-game set. No starters are announced for Friday’s matchup. First pitch is set for 7:05pm ET.

Erie SeaWolves

The SeaWolves were idle on Thursday. They get back in action on Friday, welcoming in the Reading Fightin Phils with Sandy Baez getting the start at 6:05pm ET. Get to UPMC Park early for the Justin Verlander World Champion Bobblehead Giveaway.

Lakeland Flying Tigers, Charlotte Stone Crabs (postponed)

Fort Wayne TinCaps 7, West Michigan Whitecaps 3 (box)

Jesus Rodriguez was smacked around on Thursday, surrendering six runs in four innings of work. The offense just didn’t have enough to mount a comeback. Luke Burch put together a four-hit game, but didn’t get much help from the rest of the Caps’ lineup. They struck out 10 times against TinCaps pitching, and Burch’s triple was their only extra base hit.

Burch: 4-4, R, RBI, 3B

Rodriguez (L): 4.0 IP, 6 ER, 10 H, BB, 2 SO
