Toledo Mud Hens 9, Columbus Clippers 7 (box)
The two teams exchanged some knockdown punches in this one, but the Hens just had too much firepower. Chad Huffman hit a pair of home runs and drove in an eye-popping seven runs in this one. He doubled home a pair in the first inning as the Hens jumped out to a 4-0 lead, and saved the homers for the late innings. Jeimer Candelario looked ready to return to Detroit with a pair of hits and two runs scored. A.J. Ladwig cruised through five innings, but erupted in the sixth, giving up a pair of home runs and the lead. The Hens put up a four-run seventh to retake the lead and Johnny Barbato closed it out for the Hens to earn his third save.
Huffman: 3-5, 2 2B, 2 HR, 3 R, 7 RBI, 2 SO
Candelario: 2-4, 2 R, RBI, BB, SO
Ladwig: 5.1 IP, 7 H, 5 ER, 2 BB, 5 SO
Coming up next: The Hens take their International League leading 30-15 record into a weekend home series against the Norfolk Tides.
Harrisburg Senators 4, Erie SeaWolves 2 (box)
Sandy Baez battled his command a bit, but was putting together a solid outing until the Senators’ Drew Ward drilled a two-run to left in the sixth inning. Baez gave up four runs (three earned) in five innings of work. John Schreiber came on, walked the first hitter he saw, and then mowed down the next three to escape the inning without further damage. A.J. Simcox tripled home Daniel Johnson in the sixth, and Jake Robson smacked a solo shot in the ninth inning to account for the SeaWolves’ offense.
Simcox: 2-4, 3B, RBI, SO
Robson: 2-5, HR, R, RBI, SO
Baez (L): 5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R (3 ER), 3 BB, 5 SO

Fort Wayne TinCaps 3, West Michigan Whitecaps 0 (box)
The TinCaps’ pitching rallied to stave off the sweep on Thursday. Jesus Rodriguez was very good again for West Michigan, but his offense just couldn’t get anything going. Rodriguez took the loss after going six innings with six strikeouts. He allowed three earned runs. Cole Peterson and Garrett McCain each had a double in the game. Felix Viloria gave the Whitecaps three perfect innings with four strikeouts to enable a comeback that never arrived.
