Norfolk Tides 3, Toledo Mud Hens 2 (box)
Ryan Carpenter gave up just one unearned run in six innings, striking out seven. However, it was not enough, thanks to a poor showing from Toledo’s offense and a rough inning from reliever Phillippe Aumont. The 29-year-old righty gave up a pair of runs in the top of the seventh, and Toledo was unable to match, as Christin Stewart struck out with the game-tying run in scoring position in the ninth. Stewart struggled on the day, going 0-for-4 with a walk. The rest of the Mud Hens offense was able to notch seven hits, but they went 1-for-9 with runners in scoring position.

Kyle Funkhouser had a strong start, limiting Trenton to just one run in six innings with six strikeouts. Relievers Joe Navilhon and John Schreiber threw two scoreless innings apiece in relief.
