This kind of prompt can have one of two meanings, and the one you choose is entirely up to you. We all have pre-conceived notions about players, whether they come to the team via draft, trade, or offseason signing. Sometimes we’re thrilled about their arrival, other times we’re bitter about what we gave up to get them, or simply don’t expect anything great from them.
No matter how a guy got onto the team, there’s always a player we pre-judged in some capacity. For me, it was Phil Coke. I was a big Phil Coke apologist for a very long time because I loved his attitude and the element of fun he brought to games. But you can only pretend a player is good for so long (and against all evidence to the contrary). I think I wanted to believe that the guy who spiked his glove into the ground after getting the final out against the Yankees in the 2012 ALCS was THE GUY, and that was who we could count on game after game, but it wasn’t meant to be.
Which Tigers player were you wrong about, for better or worse?
