The Detroit Tigers’ feeble lineup took another hit on Sunday, despite picking up a victory against the Blue Jays and breaking a long losing streak. Center fielder Leonys Martin suffered a left hamstring strain in Sunday’s contest, and has been added to the 10-day disabled list.
Martin beat out an RBI bunt hit with the bases loaded and two outs in the fifth inning against Toronto Blue Jays starter, J.A. Happ. In the process he aggravated his left hamstring and was lifted from the game for pinch runner Victor Reyes. The hamstring is the same one that landed Martin on the disabled list in early May.
The Tigers have not announced a corresponding move, but John Wagner of the Toledo Blade reports that the Toledo Mud Hens scratched left fielder Mikie Mahtook from their lineup on Sunday. It seems likely that he’s Martin’s replacement, but that is not yet confirmed. After a rough start with the Tigers, Mahtook has been on fire for the Toledo Mud Hens, so he may bring a little offensive punch with him.
